Schubert & Kreisler – Two viennese songwriters

For this concert the Singphoniker will travel from the south of the republic to the far west to take their audience across the austrian border to Vienna. This programme will see the meeting of two men who never encountered each other in real life. You´ll experience an evening that will effortlessly combine classical and popular music- a trademark of the Singphoniker.

Departure

The great Orlando di Lasso is point of departure and inspiration for this programme.
The music dives right into his mighty cosmos of sound. Interesting aspect: the selected Magnificat settings by Lasso all reference an original composition of a revered colleague, breaking it open or even pushing it further. Just like that also contemporary composers use elements from long gone eras to create fascinating connections.

Schubert and Kreisler: a viennese summit. Is that possible, is that even allowed? Schubert and Kreisler combined in one programme? On one side Schubert´s romantically transfigured nostalgia, on the other side the cabaret artist Georg Kreisler´s biting irony? The Singphoniker can. And they will. You´re going to be surprised!

Carl Orff has often affirmed in interviews that he was a big fan of the Comedian Harmonists´. But how close are those artists really? Apart from gripping musical aspects a specially made moderation will revive the era until the mid 20th century and show how societal misdemeanour can influence an artist´s life and career.

Orlando di Lasso penitential psalms

First recording session of the latest Lasso-CD-production with the penitential psalms by Orlando di Lasso: a musical cosmos, an opus summum of more than 140 minutes of music altogether.
The double CD will be completed this summer and will be released early 2018 by CPO in their ongoing Lasso Edition. (so far two CDs “Hymnus” and „Magnificat”)
